3. It develops from a single megaspore.
4. Megasporogenesis is the process of the formation of megaspores.

Monosporic development of female gametophyte:

1. The MMC (megaspore mother cell) divides to form four haploid megaspores by meiotic division.
2. Among the four haploid megaspores, one is functional and becomes the embryo sac and the other three disintegrate.
3. Mitosis of the functional haploid megaspore results in the production of an 8-nucleate, 7-celled gametophyte.
4. This type of development is known as monosporic development.
