Solution

The reaction between an acid and a base is termed as neutralization reaction. This is because when an acid reacts with a base, they cancel out or nullify each other. In general it can be represented as :
Acid+BaseSalt+Water

Examples from daily life:
  • When a person is suffering from acidity, he is advised to take antacid tablets. This is because the excessive acid present in the stomach is nullified by basic nature of antacids .
  • When an ant bites us, we apply calamine solution to it . This is because the acid [Formic Acid] secreted by ant is nullified by basic nature of calamine solution.
