Partial oxidation is a process in which natural gas or a heavy hydrocarbon fuel (heating oil) is mixed with a limited amount of oxygen in an exothermic process.
Example: $C_{n} H_{m} + \frac{2 n + m}{4} O_{2} \to n C O + \frac{m}{2} H_{2} O$
