Pericycle:

  1. It is a layered cell that surrounds the stele and is present in the root or stem of the plants.
  2. It is a plant tissue that exists between the endodermis and the phloem.
  3. It has a unique ring-like or cylindrical structure.
  4. It consists of parenchyma and can be of multiple layers.
  5. It develops into cork cambium and hence contributes to the secondary growth of the plant.
  6. In dicot roots, the pericycle protects the vascular bundles and gives rise to lateral roots.
