What is meant by solubility?

Open in App
Solution

The maximum amount of solute that can be dissolved in a given amount of the solvent (generally water) is termed as its solubility at that temperature.

Numerically, it is the number of grams of solute that dissolves in 100 g of solvent to form a saturated solution at a given temperature and pressure. Thus, solubility is the maximum weight of solute that can be dissolved in 100 g of solvent at a given temperature and pressure.
