Solution

(a): Definition of Amplitude:

  1. The amplitude of any periodic motion is nothing but the maximum displacement that a particle covers from its equilibrium position during the vibration.
  2. The amplitude is denoted by the letter A
  3. The dimension of amplitude is same as the dimension of length.

(b): Definition of frequency of a wave:

  1. The frequency of the wave is the number of complete vibrations that a wave performs in a second.
  2. The frequency of the wave is denoted by the letter f.
  3. The dimension of the frequency of the wave is same as the dimension of time inverse.
  4. The SI the unit of frequency is given by Hertz(Hz).
  5. The frequency of the wave is given by f=vλ where v is the speed of the wave and λ is the wavelength of the wave.
