Solution

Inspiration:

  1. The process of taking in oxygen-rich air is called inspiration.
  2. During inspiration, the ribs are pulled upwards and outwards and the diaphragm becomes flat which leads to an increase in the volume of the lungs.

Expiration:

  1. The process of expelling out carbon dioxide-rich air is called expiration.
  2. During expiration, the ribs moved downwards and inwards and the diaphragm relaxes and moves upwards. This leads to a decrease in the volume of the lungs.
