Question

What is meant by torque due to gravity?

Open in App
Solution

For gravitational torque we consider the force is acting at certain point where the whole mass can be confirmed (centre of mass).
Now,
τ=dτ=r×dmg
As we know,
rcm=1Mrdm
Therefore,
τ=Mrcm×g
=rcm×Mg
Which is the desired result.
