what is meant by triple point of water.what is the advantage of taking triple point of water as fixed point for a temperature scale

Dear student, triple point is the temperature at which substance can exist in equilibrium in solid,liquid and gaseous state, triple point for water is 0.01°C.We take triple point of water as fixed point for temperature scale because the triple point of water has a unique value, which is always equal to 0.01°C.the melting point of ice and boiling point of water depends on pressure and temperature and is not fixed, that's why we take triple point as fixed point for temperature scale.
