Uricotelism :

  1. The process of excretion of nitrogenous waste in form of uric acid is known as uricotelism.
  2. The organisms exhibiting uricotelism are known as uricotelic organisms.
  3. Uricotelic animals excrete a considerable portion of their nitrogenous waste as semi-solid or solid uric acid.
  4. Birds, terrestrial reptiles (such as lizards and snakes), terrestrial insects, and snails are a few examples of uricotelic animals.
  5. Excretory wastes such as uric acid and its salts have poor water solubility.
  6. The excretion of these compounds in urine can be regarded as a successful terrestrial adaptation.
