Menstruation is the shedding of the uterine lining along with blood.
The walls of the uterus thicken in order to receive the egg, in case it gets fertilised. In case the egg does not get fertilised, the egg and the thickened lining of the uterus are shed off along with blood. It generally occurs once in 28 or 30 days.
