Meristematic tissues are a cell or a group of cells that have a capability to divide continuously.The meristematic tissue consists of small and densely packed cells that divide continuously to form new cells.These undergo a process called differentiation to form permanent tissues.
The following characteristics are shown by meristematic tissues:
1)These consists of immature or undifferentiated cells.
2)These cells are small in size.
3)These are highly active cells and have dense cytoplasm.
4)Intercellular spaces are very less or absent.
5)They have a prominent nucleus and a thin cell wall.
6)Vacuoles are absent.
