Mixed cropping:

  1. Two or more crops when grown in the same field simultaneously, it is known as mixed cropping.
  2. Growing wheat and gram on the same land at the same time is an example of mixed cropping.
  3. The practice of growing mixed crops minimizes the risk of failure of one of the crops.
  4. Crops grown together in mixed cropping should have a different maturation time and also different water requirements.
  5. In this cropping pattern, one tall and the other dwarf crop should be grown together.
  6. The nutrient requirement of one crop is less than those required by the other crop.

Advantages of Mixed Cropping:

  1. The crop yield increases in this manner.
  2. pest infestation is minimized by mixed cropping.
  3. This reduces the risk of crop failure.
  4. The utilization of soil is proper.
  5. Harvesting of more than one crop can be done at the same time.
