- Maternal mortality is caused by a variety of reasons or factors.
- MMR is an important performance metric for enhancing the health and safety of mothers prior to, after, and during childbirth.
- Complications during labor and pregnancy are the greatest cause of death and disability among women of reproductive age in developing nations.
Reasons for the high maternal mortality rate:
There are a variety of reasons for the death of women in their reproductive years (18-39 years) which has resulted in an increase in MMR. The following are some of the reasons for the high MMR:
