Taxonomy:
Taxonomy or systematics is the discipline of biology that analyzes many types of species, their interactions with one another, and their evolutionary history.
Modern taxonomy:
- Modern taxonomy is also known as biosystematics, which is a branch of systematics that uses evolutionary, genetic, and morphological traits to determine taxonomic affinity.
- Apart from morphological traits, modern taxonomy considers all characteristics of organisms, including genetic constituents, cellular structure, evolutionary relationships, mode of nourishment, reproduction, and so on.
- Cytotaxonomy, numerical taxonomy, and chemotaxonomy are examples of modern taxonomic development.
- Phylogenetic classification or classification based on evolutionary relationships or lineages is a feature of modern taxonomy.
