Question

What is modified Raoult's Law?

Open in App
Solution

Raoult's law:

  1. The most common and simplest law applicable to non-aqueous mixtures is Raoult's law.
  2. It is stated that the partial vapor pressure of each component of the solution is directly proportional to the mole fraction present in the solution, for a solution of volatile liquids.
  3. It can be represented mathematically as:

p1αp2

p1=p10x1

where p1is the partial pressure and x1is the mole fraction of the first component. p10is the vapor pressure at the same temperature as the pure component.
