  1. Myoglobin is a red-colored protein pigment found in striated muscles (skeletal muscle and cardiac muscle).
  2. It contains and stores oxygen.
  3. Muscle fibers having excess myoglobin are known as red muscle fibers.
  4. Mammals such as whales and seals have a greater amount of myoglobin in their muscles, as a result of which they can remain submerged for a long time.
