Neurohypophysis:

  1. The posterior lobe of the pituitary is called neurohypophysis.
  2. It is also known as pars nervosa and it is also referred as pars posterior.
  3. It is situated at the base of the brain.
  4. The two hormones produced by the neurosecretory cells of the hypothalamus are transported axonally to the neurohypophysis.
  5. Neurohypophysis stores antidiuretic hormone (ADH) and oxytocin hormone.
  6. Neurohypophysis is also associated with the release of these hormones whenever required.
