Question

What is neuromuscular junction and it's skeletal muscle cell and motor neuron??

Open in App
Solution

A neuromuscular junction (or myoneural junction) is a chemical synapse(junction) formed by the contact between a motor neuron and a muscle fiber. It is at the neuromuscular junction that a motor neuron is able to transmit a signal to the muscle fiber, causing muscle contraction.Information to the skeletal muscle comes through motor neuron and it is connected with the spinal cord.

Skeletal muscle cells is the building blocks of muscle tissues. It is a form of striated muscle tissue which is under the voluntary control of the nervous system.Because skeletal muscle cells are long and cylindrical, they are commonly referred to as muscle fibers. They are attched to the bones and it males voluntary muscle movements possible.

Motor nuerons are special type of nerve cells (nuerons ).They originate in the spinal cord and synapse with muscle fibers to facilitate muscle contraction .Muscle contraction begins when the nervous system generates a signal. The signal, an impulse called an action potential, travels through motor neuron.

Conclusion :
Muscle contraction begins when the nervous system generates a signal. The signal, an impulse called an action potential, travels through a type of nerve cell called a motor neuron. The neuromuscular junction is the name of the place where the motor neuron reaches a muscle cell. Skeletal muscle tissue is composed of cells called muscle fibers. When the nervous system signal reaches the neuromuscular junction a chemical message is released by the motor neuron. The chemical message, a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine, binds to receptors on the outside of the muscle fiber. That starts a chemical reaction within the muscle and contracts/folds the muscle
