Characteristics of Deuteromycetes:

  1. A large number of these fungi are parasites in humans and animals.
  2. Several members of Deuteromycetes can cause diseases such as leaf spots, blights in plants and, meningitis, skin diseases in animals.
  3. The mycelium is made up of septate hyphae.

Examples of pathogenic Deuteromycetes:

  1. Alternaria solani causes early blight of potatoes.
  2. Colletotrichum falcatum causes red rot of sugarcane.
