Solution

Endomembrane system:

  1. The endomembrane system is the group of organelles or membranes that works together to modify, pack and transport lipids and proteins.
  2. It includes the endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, lysosomes, and vacuoles.
  3. It does not include membranes of mitochondria and chloroplast.

Components of endomembrane system:

  1. Endoplasmic reticulum: It is a network of tiny tubular structures scattered in the cytoplasm which helps in the synthesis of protein and lipids.
  2. Golgi apparatus: It helps in tagging, packing, and modifying proteins and lipids.
  3. Lysosomes: It contains hydrolytic digestive enzymes which digest carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and nucleic acid.
  4. Vacuoles: These contain sap, water, excretory materials, and other materials which are useless for the cell.
