A novel is a modem form of literature that describes fictional characters and events usually in the form of a sequential story.
The two features of a novel are as follows:
(i) Novels began to be written from the 17th century but really flowered from the 18th century.
(ii) Most of the novels were written on social Issues such as marriage relationship, the proper conduct of men and women etc.

(i) The copying manuscript was very expensive.
(ii) It was laborious and time-consuming.
(iii) Manuscripts were fragile, awkward to handle.
The two uses of the printing press were as follows:
(i) It enabled people to provide books at greater speed.
(ii) The production of books in large number created a new culture of reading.
