Solution

Nutrition:

  1. Nutrition is an important physiological and biochemical process in which living beings obtain and utilize food for their survival. For example, human beings eat food available in the outside world to gather nutrition and generate energy for their survival.
  2. Nutrition is broadly divided into two types, autotrophic and heterotrophic nutrition.

Autotrophic nutrition:

  1. It is the type of nutrition in which organisms can generate their food and provide nutrition to themselves. For this process, they do not depend on other organisms.
  2. Examples of autotrophic organisms include; plants and blue-green algae.

Heterotrophic nutrition:

  1. This type of nutrition is the opposite of autotrophic nutrition, as heterotrophic organisms cannot synthesize their own food and depend on other animals for their survival.
  2. For example, man depends on plants and other animals to get food.

Autotrophic nutrition in plants:

  1. Plants are eukaryotic organisms belonging to the kingdom Plantae.
  2. These are non-mobile and cannot capture prey by moving from one place to another. For this reason, nature made them unique by providing them the ability to synthesize their own food.
  3. Plants develop their food by the process called photosynthesis.
  4. Photosynthesis takes place in the green leaves of the plants.
  5. The raw materials for photosynthesis are water and carbon dioxide. Plants utilize the raw materials in the presence of sunlight to form glucose as their food.
  6. That is why plants are called autotrophic organisms or autotrophs.
