Question

What is osmotic pressure and what do we mean by ''sucrose solution flows from high osmotic pressure to low osmotic pressure?

Open in App
Solution

A solution with high amount of solute has more osmotic pressure. It means that it will prevent the osmosis I.e. It will retain water and prevent the water from leaving the cell. Due to high sucrose content in the loaded phloem, water will be retained in phloem, for the transport of sucrose, till it reaches the sink.
