The heart pumps blood. It supplies oxygenated blood to all parts of the body and sends deoxygenated blood to the lungs for its conversion to oxygenated blood.
The heart has a cardiac conduction system through which the rate and rhythm of the heartbeat can be controlled.
The electrical signal goes from the top of the heart to the bottom which causes the heart to contract and pump blood.

No of times each minute the heartbeats is known as normal pulse rate.
The normal pulse rate of a healthy individual ranges between 60 to 100 beats per minute.
It is normally 72 times per minute for a healthy individual.
When the person is an athlete or doing some heavy exercise then pulse rate can shoot up to 130 beats per minute.
