Question
What is out of phase in physics?

Solution
Phase is used to describe a specific location in a given cycle of a periodic wave.
It is time-dependent. So, we can say that the relative position of one point on a wave to another point on the same wave is known as Phase.
Phases are of two types- in phase and out of phase.
In Phase, waves are the waves which are
0
∘
or
360
∘
apart.
The resulting amplitude of in-phase waves is twice the original wave.
Out-of-phase waves are the waves that are
180
∘
apart.
The resulting amplitude of the completely out-of-phase wave is zero.
