Transformers are devices that change the value of voltage from one value to another but the power remains the same.
In transformers power will remain the same at the input and output but the voltage will increase or decrease depending upon the requirements.
It is based on the principle of Mutual Induction.
The transmission current is Alternating Current.
A Transformer basically consists of Primary Coil and a Secondary Coil.
To keep electricity flowing continuously in the Secondary Coil, we have to continuously keep changing the direction of the flow of current to get change in the magnetic field.
So here we are using Alternating Current(AC). As AC flows in a sine waveform, its direction of flow continuously changes.
By connecting Primary Coil with the AC supply we get AC flowing in the Secondary Coil.
Thus, the output of the transformer gives Alternating Current(AC) not Direct Current(DC).
