  2. However this ozone layer is getting depleted due to gases like chlorofluorocarbons, methane, etc. which destroy the ozone.
  3. As a result, harmful UV radiations from the Sun are reaching the earth.

Ozone hole

  1. ‘Ozone hole’ specifically refers to the depletion of the ozone layer over the Earth's polar regions.
  2. It expands during the winter season.
  3. The primary cause for this ‘ozone hole’ formation is the release of chlorofluorocarbons and some other pollutants into the atmosphere.
