Question

What is p-type semiconductor? What are the majority and minority charge carries in it?

Open in App
Solution

To make extrinsic semiconductors, when the impurity to be doped with intrinsic semiconductor is trivalent
then the made semiconductor is called ptype semiconductor.
Boron and aluminum are some examples of trivalent impurity.
When we add trivalent impurity to intrinsic semiconductor, it creates deficiency of valence electrons thus result in
creation of holes which are treated as POSITIVE charge carriers that is why called as ptype semiconductor.
So hole are majority charge carriers and electrons as minority charge carriers due to their deficiency.
