Parturition:

  1. Parturition is the process of delivering a fully developed fetus from the female uterus after completion of the natural gestation period.
  2. In cattle, parturition is termed calving.
  3. In cattle, reproduction and reproductive health maintenance are of prime importance and there a lot of money is invested in it.
  4. The gestation period lasts for about 238 days and the entire process of calving should last about 8-12 hours.

Stages of calving:

  1. Stage 1: Dilation of cervix.
  2. Stage 2: Expulsion of the calf and rupture of allanto-chorion.
  3. Stage 3: Expulsion of fetal membranes.
