Pedigree analysis is the study of a particular trait that is inherited from one generation to another. It helps to know the trait of inheritance for a particular trait, and also know whether the trait is actually getting inherited or not. Thus, it can be used to predict the characteristics of future generation of a particular species, like colour, stature, height, etc.
