The $(-\stackrel{\stackrel{O}{||}}{C}-NH-C-CO-NH-)$ linakge (amide linkage) by which, $\alpha$-amino acids are joined in linear fashion in proteins is called peptide linakge. Peptide linkage or dipeptide is formed by condensation of acidic group$(-COOH)$ of one molecule of $\alpha$-amino acid and base $-N{H}_2$ group of other molecule or $\alpha$-amino acid with elimination of a water molecule.
