Solution
Pericardial fluid refers to the serous fluid secreted by the serous layer of the pericardium into the pericardial cavity. This fluid is present in the pericardial cavity, between the inner and outer pericardium.
The pericardial fluid functions to reduce the friction within the pericardium by lubricating the epicardial surface and allowing the membranes to glide over each other with each heartbeat.
