Solution

pH is a measure of the acidity and alkalinity of a substance. It can be calculated by the formula given in the diagram. The optimal pH range for most plants is between 6 to 7. Fertile soil contains sufficient minerals and nutrients needed for plant growth. It has an optimum pH. When the pH is very high or very low the crop yield will be adversely affected due to the failure of the absorption of minerals and nutrients from the soil.
