A phagosome is a vesicle that forms by invagination of the plasma membrane with its associated lipids and proteins during phagocytosis of microbes or microbial proteins.
Functions: 1.

Feed cells with beads or microbes coupled with carboxyfluorescein-SE (see reagents).

2.

Calibrate the reporter signal by calculating the ratio of reporter to reference fluorescence.

3.

Determine pH by measuring excitation–emission values of the beads in buffers of known pH and generation of a standard curve.
