Phonation :

  1. It is the production of sound by structures present in the upper respiratory tract of the respiratory system.
  2. The function of the transducer is performed by the larynx during phonation that generates acoustic energy from the aerodynamic forces produced by the lungs, diaphragm, chest, and abdominal muscles.

Biomechanics of phonation:

  1. Abduction of vocal folds during inspiration.
  2. Adduction of vocal folds during expiration.
  3. Full abduction of vocal folds during forced inspiration.
  4. Descend of the larynx during inspiration.
  5. Ascend of the larynx during expiration.
