Photoperiodism is the physiological reaction of plants to the length of the day. on the basis of photoperiodism the plants are classified as:
  • Short day plants: The plants that flower only when the length of the night are longer than the length of the day are known as short-day plants. E.g: rice
  • Long day plants: The plants that flower, when the length of the day is longer than the length of the night, are known as long day plants. E.g: pea
  • Day-neutral plants: The plants that do not initiate flowering on the basis of the length of the day (photoperiodism) are known as day-neutral plants. E.g: cucumber.
