What is phytochrome? How does it differ from chlorophyll and cytochrome? Give a brief account of phytochrome mediated processes in plants.

A phytochrome can be defined as the blue-green pigment in plants, they are a class of photoreceptor in plants, bacteria & fungi use to detect light, wile chlorophyll is the green pigment which absorbs light energy for photosynthesis, & cytochromes are class of flavoproteins sensitive to blue light, they are found in plants and animals.
Phytochrome mediated responses include induction of flowering, chloroplast development, leaf senescence & leaf abscission.
