Plant embryo:
- The plant embryo develops from the zygote at the micropylar end of the embryo sac.
- After seed germination, it develops into a new plant.
Embryo development in dicot plant:
- It consists of two cotyledons and an embryonal axis.
- The zygote develops into a globular embryo, a heart-shaped embryo, and then into a mature embryo.
Embryo development in monocot plant:
- The monocot embryo has only one cotyledon known as the scutellum and is present on the lateral side of the embryonal axis.
- Epicotyl has a shoot apex which is enclosed by a hollow foliar structure known as coleoptile and the root cap is enclosed by an undifferentiated sheath known as coleorhiza.
