What is polygenic inheritance?

When the characteristics which are inherited to the offspring are controlled by two or more than two genes is called polygenic inheritance.
Examples of polygenic characters are height, skin colour, eye colour and weight.
The amount or quantity of such genes are more but their effect is small.
Therefore, it is also called quantitative inheritance.
