Open in App
Solution

Positional isomerism:

  • Positional isomers are constitutional isomers with the same carbon skeleton and will have the same functional group.
  • They differ from each other in the position of the functional groups on the carbon chain and the phenomenon is known as positional isomerism.

Example: 1-Chloropropane and 2-Chloropropane

  • 1-Chloropropane contains the chlorine atom at the first carbon and 2-Chloropropane has chlorine atom at the second carbon.
