Poultry farming:

  1. Poultry refers to the birds that are raised for eggs and meat.
  2. It includes hen, duck, geese and turkey.
  3. Poultry farming is a form of animal husbandry which deals with the practice of rearing and breeding of poultry birds.
  4. Good animal husbandry practices ensure that proper food, shelter, hygiene, disease-care, protection, etc is given to the concerned animals.

Feed of the poultry:

  1. Feed of the poultry includes mashed cereals like bajra, wheat, maize, jowar, rice bran and oil cakes like ground nut cake.
  2. The fish meal or meat meal produced from meat producing industries is also given to the poultry birds.

Diseases:

  1. There are some diseases which are commonly seen in poultry birds.
  2. These diseases are caused by the attack if micro-organisms such as virus, bacteria etc.
  3. Viral diseases: Fowl pox, ranikhet disease.
  4. Bacterial diseases: Fowl cholera, salmonellosis, infectious coryza.
  5. Fungal disease: Aspergillosis.
