What is primary production?

Open in App
Solution

The primary productivity refers to the photosynthetic activity performed at the level of the producers at the first trophic level. When the producers convert solar energy into chemical energy to make the organic form of food, it is called the gross primary productivity. A portion of it is used in the respiratory activities of the plant and the remaining amount is called the net primary productivity, which is then available to the consumers.
