What is private placement method ?? (from the chapter financial markets)

Dear Student,
In the method of private placement, the securities are sold only to some selected individuals and big institutional investors rather than to the general public. Herein, companies either allot the securities themselves or sell them to intermediaries who in turn sell these securities to selected clients.
