Keto group on reacting with peroxy acid, it get oxidised to ester compound.
In this reaction, the oxygen from peroxy acid is getting inserted between the ketone and the R group.
This reaction is called Baeyer- Villiger oxidation.



One of the substituents on ketone (either R1 or R2 depending on the migration ability) migrates to the oxygen of the peroxide group while a carboxylic acid leaves, as shown in the above mechanism.

The order of migratory aptitude in Baeyer villiger oxidation is
H>3o>2o>Ph>1o>CH3

Thus, secondary alkyl group is migrated to form product (b).
