Question

What is Pyramidal in Chemistry?

Open in App
Solution

  1. In Chemistry the term pyramidal is used to denote the geometrical shape of the compounds.
  2. The geometry may include the shape, bond length, bond order, etc.
  3. Generally Pyramidal structure or geometry is found in the shape tetrahedron i.e. one atom is present at the peak and three atoms are present at the base.
  4. The example of trigonal pyramidal geometry is as follows: Xenon trioxide, Sulphite ion, etc.
  5. In organic chemistry it can also help in determining the hybridization of the molecule and trigonal pyramidal geomtery has sp3 a hybridization state.
