  1. It is a trisaccharide containing glucose, galactose, and fructose.
  2. The chemical formula of raffinose is C18H32O16.
  3. It belongs to the family of oligosaccharides(Raffinose family oligosaccharides-RFOs).
  4. They are found in plants and seeds like legumes, whole grain, cabbage, asparagus, molasses of beetroot, etc.

The function of Raffinose:

  1. They serve as desiccation protectants in seeds
  2. They act as transport sugar in phloem sap and as storage sugar.
  3. It can also bean used as an anti-freezing agent.
  4. Raffinose present in molasses of beetroot is used in the production of some kind of brown sugar.
