Ramsar Convention - It is an international agreement for the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands also known as the convention on wetlands. Ramsar convention was named after the city of Ramsar in Iran, a convention was signed 1971.

It works with other 6 organizations call international organization partners or IOPs as given below.
Birdlife International.
International Union for conservation of nature.
Wildfowl and wetlands trust.
Wetlands International.
WWF international.
International water management institute.

2331 Ramsar sites in May 2018 which covered over 2.1 billion million square kilometers were included in the list of wetlands of international importance. Bolivia has the greatest area of listed wetlands and the United Kingdom with the highest number of sites.
