Hearing range describes the range of frequencies that can be heard by humans or other animals, though it can also refer to the range of levels. The human range is commonly given as 20 to 20,000 Hz
With ageing there is a decrease in the number of neurons in the cochlea nuclei and auditory centres of the brain.
There is also a reduction in the size of cells and changes in the neurochemical make up of the cells.
These effects combine with general biological ageing within the brain decides the hearing range from person to person.
