Solution
The total number of atoms contained in a unit cell is called the rank of that unit cell.
In crystal lattice structure there are 14 different types of crystal unit cell structures found in nature.
These crystal lattices are called Bravais lattice structures.
Unit cell is defined as the simplest unit present in the crystal.
Many solids have unit cell structure as body-centered cubic, face-centered cubic, simple cubic, hexagonal closed packed structures.
The rank of the crystal structure is denoted by the letter “Z”
Example; Rank of simple cubic lattice structure is equal to 1, for-body-centered cubic it is 2 .
